Our goal as coaches, first and foremost is to help you as an athlete reach your goals. With the understanding that each athlete is unique, we will strive to learn about you and your aspirations and to give you a training plan that you understand and trust. While we will compose your day to day workouts, we will also teach you the basic training principles that we employ. Our goal is to help you improve your fitness and confidence in your running by giving you a plan that you will find enjoyable and challenging and that will allow you to track your progress through measured success. And lastly, but certainly not least, we will try to get you there gradually and intelligently, without injury.
is in his 7th year as the Germantown Friends School (GFS) Head Boys' Cross Country and Distance coach. Hewitt has guided the GFS program to 7 straight Friends Schools Cross Country team titles (2004-2010) and 5 straight Independent State Cross Country team titles (2006-2010). In 2007 and 2009, the GFS Cross Country Team has been ranked top 15 nationally (10th in 2007, 14th in 2009) and featured in The Harrier magazine, Dyestat.com, Milesplit.us., and ESPN Rise magazine. He has coached 8 athletes to 13 All-American Honors, which included an NSIC Indoor National 2-mile Champion in an all-time Indoor PA record and an all-time PA Indoor record in the 4x1 Mile Relay. In 2008, the Tigers won the Penn Relays Distance Medley Championship of America and in 2009 qualified as one of 22 schools in the nation for the Nike Cross Nationals (NXN) in Portland, Oregon. Hewitt has been recognized as a three-time Pennsylvania Independent Schools Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2006, 2008, and 2009. As a college athlete, Hewitt competed at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia, PA. As a former captain at SJU, he has a personal best of 15:24 for the 5k and has competed in numerous marathons and half-marathons post-collegiately.
has 6 years experience coaching distance runners at the high school and college levels. She is now in her third year coaching at Saint Joseph's University, where she primarily works with middle and long-distance runners. Over the past several years, she has also worked as a personal coach for athletes running the 5k to the marathon. As an athlete, Claire was a 4-year varsity runner at the University of Pennsylvania where she set a 5k personal best of 16:50 and where she still holds the school record in the 3k Steeplechase with a time of 10:29. While running at Penn, she was a 3-time NCAA East Regional Qualifier. Post-collegiately, she has continued to train and compete in events ranging from the mile to the marathon. Her post-collegiate achievements include winning the Penn Relays Olympic Development 3k Steeplechase, finishing as the 1st Philadelphian in the Philadelphia Distance Run twice (2007 and 2009) and running a half marathon best of 1:17:58, and finishing 6th in the Broad Street 10-miler in 58:21. |
